How to Cancel Spotify Duo Plan Subscription | स्पॉटिफाई डुओ प्लान कैसे रद्द करें

Spotify Duo is a premium subscription plan designed for two people living at the same address, offering two separate Premium accounts at a discounted combined price. If you no longer need the Duo plan — whether due to a change in living situation, budget reasons, or switching to a different plan — this comprehensive guide covers all methods to cancel your Spotify Duo subscription, whether you subscribed through Spotify's website, Google Play, Apple App Store, or a third-party provider.

Key Information: Only the Plan Owner (the person who created and pays for the Spotify Duo plan) can cancel the subscription. Canceling the Duo plan will end Premium access for both the Plan Owner and the invited Duo member at the end of the current billing cycle. Both accounts will automatically revert to the free Spotify plan after cancellation.

1. Understanding Spotify Duo Plan Roles

Before canceling, it is important to understand how the Spotify Duo plan is structured:

  1. Plan Owner: The person who subscribed to Spotify Duo, manages billing, and pays for the plan — only the Plan Owner can cancel
  2. Duo Member: The second person invited to join the plan — they cannot cancel or manage billing but can leave the plan voluntarily
  3. Both accounts must be registered at the same address to qualify for the Duo plan
  4. Each person gets their own fully separate Spotify Premium account with individual playlists, recommendations, and listening history
  5. If the Plan Owner cancels, both accounts lose Premium access at the end of the billing cycle

Note: If you are the Duo Member (not the Plan Owner) and want to leave the Duo plan, you can do so by going to spotify.com/accountYour PlanLeave Plan. This removes you from the Duo plan but does not cancel the Plan Owner's subscription.

2. Canceling via Spotify Website (Desktop)

For subscriptions made directly through Spotify — the primary and recommended method:

  1. Visit www.spotify.com/account and log in as the Plan Owner
  2. Click on Your Plan from the left-hand sidebar or account menu
  3. Scroll down to find your current Spotify Duo plan details
  4. Click Change Plan or Cancel Spotify Duo
  5. Review the cancellation details — note the date your Premium access ends
  6. Click Yes, Cancel to confirm your cancellation
  7. You will receive a confirmation email from Spotify at your registered email address

Note: After canceling, both the Plan Owner and Duo Member will continue to have Spotify Premium access until the end of the current billing cycle. No partial refunds are issued for the remaining days in the billing period.

3. Canceling via Spotify Mobile App

The Spotify mobile app redirects to the website for subscription management:

  1. Open the Spotify app on your Android or iOS device
  2. Tap the gear icon (⚙) at the top-right corner to open Settings
  3. Scroll down and tap Account → this will open your account page in a browser
  4. Log in if prompted and navigate to Your Plan
  5. Follow the same website cancellation steps described in Section 2 above

4. Canceling via Google Play Store (Android)

If you subscribed to Spotify Duo through the Google Play Store:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device
  2. Tap your profile icon at the top-right → Payments & SubscriptionsSubscriptions
  3. Find and select Spotify from the list of active subscriptions
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription and select a cancellation reason
  5. Tap Continue and then confirm by tapping Cancel Subscription

To Cancel Google Pay Autopay Mandate:

  1. Open the Google Pay app on your device
  2. Tap your profile icon → Manage Google AccountPayments
  3. Go to Manage Autopay and locate the Spotify mandate
  4. Tap on it and select Cancel Autopay to remove the mandate

Note: If you subscribed through Google Play, your billing is managed entirely by Google — you must cancel through the Play Store and not through the Spotify website. The Spotify account page will show your subscription as managed by Google.

5. Canceling via Apple App Store (iOS)

If you subscribed to Spotify Duo through your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Tap your Apple ID name at the top → Subscriptions
  3. Find and select Spotify from the list of active subscriptions
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm when prompted
  5. You will receive a confirmation email from Apple with your cancellation details

Critical: If you subscribed through Apple, cancellation must be done through iOS Settings — not through the Spotify website or app. Apple manages all billing for iOS subscriptions and Spotify cannot cancel or modify Apple-managed plans on your behalf.

6. Canceling via Third-Party Providers

If your Spotify Duo subscription was activated through a telecom partner, bank offer, or third-party provider such as Jio, Airtel, Vi, or a credit card subscription benefit:

  1. Log in to your Spotify account at www.spotify.com/account
  2. Go to Your Plan to identify which third-party provider is managing your subscription
  3. Contact the identified provider through their app, website, or customer support helpline
  4. Request cancellation of the Spotify Duo plan and ask for written confirmation
  5. Verify the cancellation status by checking your Spotify account page after confirmation

Critical: Spotify Duo plans activated through third-party providers cannot be canceled through the Spotify website directly. Refund eligibility and cancellation policies vary by provider. Always obtain a written cancellation confirmation from the provider.

7. Switching From Duo Plan to a Different Spotify Plan

Instead of canceling entirely, you can switch to a different Spotify plan that better suits your needs:

  1. Log in to www.spotify.com/account as the Plan Owner
  2. Go to Your Plan and click Change Plan
  3. Browse available plans — Individual Premium, Spotify Family (up to 6 accounts), or Free
  4. Select your preferred new plan and confirm the switch
  5. The plan change typically takes effect immediately or at the start of the next billing cycle depending on the plan type

Note: If you switch from Spotify Duo to an Individual Premium plan, the Duo Member will immediately lose Premium access and revert to the free plan. Notify your Duo Member before making the switch.

8. Canceling Bank-Linked Autopay or UPI Mandate

If Spotify charges continue even after canceling your Duo subscription:

  1. Log in to your bank's internet banking portal or mobile banking app
  2. Navigate to Standing Instructions or Auto-Debit Mandates
  3. Search for and locate the Spotify payment mandate
  4. Cancel or revoke the mandate immediately
  5. Contact your bank's customer support if the mandate cannot be located or removed online
  6. Raise a charge dispute with your bank if Spotify billed you after successful cancellation

Important Notes

  • Plan Owner Only: Only the Plan Owner can cancel the Spotify Duo subscription — the Duo Member cannot cancel billing but can leave the plan independently
  • Both Accounts Affected: Canceling the Duo plan ends Premium access for both the Plan Owner and the Duo Member at the end of the billing cycle
  • No Partial Refunds: Spotify does not issue refunds for unused days remaining in the current billing cycle after cancellation
  • Free Plan Reversion: After cancellation, both accounts automatically revert to the free Spotify plan with ads, shuffle-only mobile listening, and no offline downloads
  • Playlists & Data Saved: All playlists, saved songs, podcasts, and listening history are retained even after reverting to the free plan
  • Offline Downloads Deleted: Downloaded songs and podcasts for offline listening will be removed from both devices once Premium access ends
  • India Pricing: Spotify Duo plan is priced at approximately ₹149/month for two Premium accounts — compared to ₹119/month for an individual plan
  • Verification: Always check for a cancellation confirmation email and verify your plan status at spotify.com/account after canceling

Troubleshooting

If You Don't See a Cancel Option on the Spotify Website:

  • Confirm you are logged in as the Plan Owner and not the Duo Member — only the Plan Owner sees billing and cancellation options
  • Check if your subscription is managed by Google Play or Apple — cancel through those platforms instead
  • Check if the plan was activated through a third-party provider such as Jio or Airtel — contact that provider to cancel
  • Try accessing your account via a desktop browser at spotify.com/account instead of the mobile app

If the Duo Member Lost Access Immediately After Cancellation:

  • Check if the cancellation was set to take effect immediately instead of at the end of the billing cycle
  • Contact Spotify Support at support.spotify.com to verify the cancellation date and request correction if needed

If Autopay Continues to Deduct After Cancellation:

  • Verify cancellation status by logging in to spotify.com/account and checking Your Plan
  • Check for active UPI or bank auto-debit mandates and cancel them through your banking app
  • Contact Spotify Support with your cancellation confirmation and dispute the charge

If You Want to Rejoin Spotify Duo After Canceling:

  • Log in to spotify.com/account and go to Your Plan
  • Select Spotify Duo from the available plans and complete the subscription
  • Re-invite your Duo Member using their Spotify account email address
  • Both accounts must confirm they share the same address to reactivate the Duo plan

Alternatives to Canceling Spotify Duo

  • Switch to Spotify Free: Revert to the free plan to keep your playlists and listening history without any monthly charges
  • Downgrade to Individual Premium: If only one person needs Premium, switch to the Individual plan at ₹119/month to save costs
  • Upgrade to Spotify Family: If more than two people need Premium, consider switching to the Spotify Family plan which supports up to 6 accounts at a better per-person rate
  • Use Student Discount: If eligible, switch to Spotify Premium Student at a significantly discounted rate for verified students
  • Check Telecom Bundles: Airtel, Jio, and Vi sometimes offer Spotify Premium as part of their postpaid plans — check if your mobile plan includes Spotify access
  • Pause Spending Temporarily: If budget is the concern, revert to the free Spotify plan temporarily and resubscribe when ready — all your data is retained

Before canceling Spotify Duo, consider whether switching to an Individual Premium plan or checking for a telecom bundle offer from your mobile provider might be a more cost-effective solution. Canceling the Duo plan will immediately affect the Premium access of your Duo Member — always inform them before proceeding.
