How to Cancel Spotify Family Plan Subscription | स्पॉटिफाई फैमिली प्लान कैसे रद्द करें

Spotify Family Plan is a premium subscription that allows up to 6 family members living at the same address to enjoy ad-free music, offline listening, and unlimited skips under one shared plan. This comprehensive guide covers all methods to cancel your Spotify Family Plan subscription across different devices and platforms, whether you are the plan owner or a family member looking to leave the plan.

Key Information: Only the Spotify Family Plan owner can cancel the entire plan. Canceling stops future charges but all family members retain full Premium access until the current billing period ends. After cancellation, all members — including the plan owner — will be downgraded to the free Spotify tier. Your playlists, saved songs, and listening history are preserved even after cancellation.

1. Canceling via Spotify Website (Plan Owner)

The most reliable method to cancel your Spotify Family Plan as the plan owner through the Spotify website:

  1. Visit www.spotify.com on your browser and sign in with your Spotify account
  2. Click your Profile Name or Profile Icon in the top-right corner
  3. Select Account from the dropdown menu
  4. Click on Subscription in the left sidebar
  5. Scroll down and click Change or Cancel under your current plan
  6. Select Cancel Premium
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts and confirm the cancellation

Note: After canceling, Spotify will display the exact date until which all family members have Premium access. A confirmation email will be sent to the plan owner's registered email address. All 6 members will revert to the free Spotify tier after this date.

2. Canceling via Spotify Mobile App

To cancel your Spotify Family Plan through the Spotify app on your smartphone:

  1. Open the Spotify app on your Android or iOS device
  2. Tap your Profile Icon in the top-right corner
  3. Tap Settings (gear icon)
  4. Scroll down and tap Account
  5. Tap Manage Your Plan or View Subscription
  6. This will redirect you to the Spotify website in your browser
  7. Follow the website cancellation steps listed above to complete the process

Note: Spotify does not support direct in-app cancellation on Android or iOS. The app always redirects to the Spotify website. If you subscribed through Google Play Store or Apple App Store, cancellation must be done through those platforms respectively.

3. Canceling via Google Play Store (Android)

For Spotify Family Plan subscriptions originally purchased through Google Play Store on Android:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device
  2. Tap your Profile Icon in the top-right corner
  3. Go to Payments & SubscriptionsSubscriptions
  4. Find and tap Spotify from the active subscriptions list
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription
  6. Select a reason for cancellation and tap Continue
  7. Tap Cancel Subscription again to confirm

To Cancel Google Pay Autopay Mandate:

  1. Open the Google Pay app on your Android device
  2. Tap your Profile IconManage Autopay
  3. Locate the Spotify mandate in the active mandates list
  4. Tap Manage → select Revoke or Cancel Mandate
  5. Confirm the revocation when prompted

Important: Revoking only the Google Pay autopay mandate does not cancel your Spotify Family Plan subscription. You must also cancel the subscription from Google Play Store to fully stop future charges. Always complete both steps to ensure no further deductions are made from your account.

4. Canceling via Apple App Store (iOS)

For Spotify Family Plan subscriptions originally purchased through Apple App Store on iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Tap your Apple ID / Name at the top of the screen
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Select Spotify from the active subscriptions list
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm when prompted

Note: Spotify Family Plan subscriptions billed through Apple cannot be canceled via the Spotify website or app. Any refund requests for Apple-billed subscriptions must be submitted through reportaproblem.apple.com.

5. How a Family Member Can Leave the Plan (Without Canceling)

If you are a family member and want to leave the Spotify Family Plan without canceling it for everyone:

  1. Visit www.spotify.com and sign in with your own Spotify account
  2. Click your Profile IconAccount
  3. Go to Subscription in the left sidebar
  4. Click Leave Family Plan
  5. Confirm that you want to leave — your account will revert to the free Spotify tier

Critical: Only family members can leave the plan individually. The plan owner cannot leave their own plan — they must cancel it entirely. If the plan owner wants to stop paying, they must cancel the full Family Plan, which removes Premium access for all members.

6. Removing a Family Member from the Plan (Plan Owner)

If you are the plan owner and want to remove a specific family member without canceling the whole plan:

  1. Visit www.spotify.com/family and sign in as the plan owner
  2. Go to your AccountSpotify Family
  3. Find the family member you wish to remove
  4. Click Remove next to their name
  5. Confirm the removal — that member's account will revert to the free Spotify tier immediately

Note: Removing a family member frees up a slot on your Family Plan. You can invite a new member to fill the slot at any time. The removed member's playlists and saved songs are not affected — only their Premium access is revoked.

7. Canceling via Third-Party Providers (Jio, Airtel, Paytm)

If your Spotify Family Plan was subscribed through a telecom or third-party provider:

  1. Check your Spotify account under Account → Subscription to confirm which provider is billing you
  2. Contact your provider through their official app, website, or customer care
  3. Request cancellation of the Spotify Family Plan add-on
  4. Verify that the cancellation is reflected in your Spotify account within 24 hours

Critical: Spotify Family Plan subscriptions bundled with third-party providers cannot be canceled through the Spotify website directly. You must contact your provider to cancel. Refund policies vary by provider — check with them for specific terms.

8. Canceling Bank-Linked Autopay

If Spotify Family Plan charges continue even after canceling through the steps above:

  1. Log in to your bank's internet banking portal or mobile banking app
  2. Navigate to Standing Instructions or Auto-Debit Mandates
  3. Locate the Spotify or payment gateway mandate in the list
  4. Cancel or revoke the mandate immediately
  5. Contact your bank's customer support if you are unable to locate or cancel the mandate

Important Notes

  • Plan Owner Only: Only the Spotify Family Plan owner can cancel the entire subscription — family members can only leave the plan individually
  • Refunds: Spotify does not offer refunds for partially used billing periods except in cases of verified billing errors
  • Access After Cancellation: All family members retain full Premium access until the end of the current billing cycle before reverting to the free tier
  • Spotify Family Plan Price (India): ₹179/month for up to 6 premium accounts — all members must reside at the same address
  • Playlists & Data: All playlists, saved songs, podcasts, and listening history are preserved for all members even after the plan is canceled
  • Offline Music: Downloaded songs for offline listening will become inaccessible once the subscription ends and members revert to the free tier
  • Verification: Always check for a confirmation email from Spotify after canceling the Family Plan
  • Same Address Requirement: Spotify verifies that all Family Plan members reside at the same address — misuse may result in account suspension

Troubleshooting

If the Cancel Option is Not Visible on Spotify Website:

  • Ensure you are signed in as the plan owner and not as a family member
  • Check if the subscription was purchased through Google Play Store or Apple App Store — Spotify will indicate the billing source under Account → Subscription
  • Try accessing the account page from a desktop browser instead of the mobile app
  • Clear browser cache and cookies and reload the Spotify account page

If Charges Continue After Cancellation:

  • Verify cancellation status under Account → Subscription on the Spotify website
  • Check if the subscription is still active through a third-party provider or telecom operator
  • Review your bank's auto-debit mandates and revoke the Spotify mandate if still active
  • Contact Spotify Support and raise a billing dispute with your bank if charges persist

If a Family Member Cannot Access Premium After Owner Cancels:

  • Ask the family member to sign out and sign back into their Spotify account
  • Verify that the billing period has not yet ended — Premium access is retained until the cycle ends
  • Check the plan expiry date in the owner's Account → Subscription page
  • Contact Spotify Support if Premium access is lost before the stated expiry date

If You Cannot Find the Leave Family Plan Option:

  • Ensure you are signed in as a family member and not as the plan owner
  • Access the option only through the Spotify website — it may not be available directly in the mobile app
  • Contact Spotify Support if the option is still not visible in your account

Alternatives to Canceling

  • Switch to Spotify Duo: If only 2 people need Premium, the Duo Plan (₹119/month) is more affordable than the Family Plan and does not require address verification for both members
  • Switch to Individual Premium: If you are the only active user, downgrade to an Individual Premium Plan (₹59/month) to save on cost while retaining your own Premium benefits
  • Remove Inactive Members: If some family members are not using Spotify, remove them from the plan to free up slots without canceling the whole subscription
  • Switch to Spotify Free: The free tier offers access to all songs with ads and shuffle-only listening on mobile — a good option if music streaming is not a priority
  • Add New Members: If you have fewer than 6 members, invite more eligible family members to maximize the value of the Family Plan before deciding to cancel

Before canceling the entire Spotify Family Plan, consider whether switching to the Spotify Duo Plan (₹119/month) or an Individual Premium Plan (₹59/month) might be more cost-effective for your current needs. Downgrading instead of canceling lets you retain Premium benefits at a lower price without losing your playlists or listening history.
